Peyton Avrett’s childhood was shaped by the clanging of a hammer and anvil in his father, Charles Richard Avrett’s, blacksmith shop where he learned the skills of this centuries-old trade. He sharpened his art and design skills at Ringling College of Art and Design, where he earned his BFA. After completing further studies in Chicago, Peyton moved back to Charleston where he returned to his roots in metalsmithing. Peyton’s designs draw inspiration from the classical elements of historic Charleston. “I have always enjoyed taking a medium and introducing it in a way that is not so obvious. Steel can be such a heavy element visually to work within, it is wonderful to show it in a light and delicate presentation.” Peyton’s commissioned works adorn numerous historic properties through out Charleston as well as the country. Most recent commissions have included Beijing China and Venice Italy.
The artisans at Avrett blend Old World craftsmanship with the best of contemporary design. The result of this creative fusion is a selection of distinctive wrought iron furniture, lighting, and design accents that fit beautifully in any interior or exterior space. We look forward to working with you!
